Keep popping up in my not-quite-real-but-sort-of-real search for vehicles to replace the FieSTa that I can both afford, would remain sane driving, and could make it down our road during mud season.
https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=492028040
The fuel economy pains me... as do the potential repair costs...
it also still maddens me how many of the are listed as “manual” with the automatic, just because it’s a manually shiftable auto. Morons.

You know what I hate?
I flag a search as wanting manuals. I go looking for manuals. I see a vehicle that has a chance of being manual, click on it...
and it’s an automatic.
Thanks, dealers, for being idiots .

Selden motors always pops up in my searches, they have some pretty good enthusiast cars. Can this handle mud season?

Get a lift kit for a GTI, as all ST owners appear to be moving to GTIs.

H ere’s the thing: I don’t LIKE the GTI. I’ ve been looking at suspension for the ST actually.... but the input shaft bearing is finally going...

too low :/

This drives me insane as well.

This only hurt the person/dealer listing it, right? I feel like people who are specifically searching for manual cars are not going to be convince to buy an automatic because it has a shit select-a-gearomatic. But, people who see there cars as appliances and would never understand how or why someone would choose a manual, will never look at the listing because it is not listed as an automatic.
As much as it frustrates me as I daydream search through listings, what really pisses me of is not being able to figure out the logic on why so many dealers do this?

They hired a techno-whiz kid to run the website, and he thinks manual means it doesn’t have autopilot so you have to drive it yourself.

I can’t stop smiling from this image I have of this thing as a shepherd’s farm truck.

But what if you find a true manual Cayenne?
![]() 10/22/2018 at 14:19 |
|
It’s only manual when there’s a third pedal.
No, the foot release for the hood doesn’t count.

“Third pedal ? That makes no sense! That would be a...a...foot-ual! You old people make no sense. I’m gonna go play WoW now.”
![]() 10/22/2018 at 14:26 |

Well, y’know it’s two-and-half tons, asking a V6 to move that much weight around isn’t going to yield the best fuel economy.

Do people still play WoW? I don't think the youths do. They're all hooked on Fortnite now.

Ack, I’m one of those out of touch old timers, it seems. Yes, I seem to remember seeing a memo about Fortnite...

This one is. Of the 30+ that show up in search results for "manual transmission only" this the cheaper and newer (though higher mile) of two that actually ARE manual.
![]() 10/22/2018 at 14:35 |

Its true. The v8 only gets slightly worse city economy and nearly the same highway... But manual v8 Cayennes are rare as fuck and always command a premium.

It would even tow our trailer....

Ah, very interesting. Do it!!!

Holy lord a stick in a cayenne! I’ve contemplated replacing the beetle with a manual X3 and good lord they are so commonly misidentified it’s not even funny.

The answer is:
Used Cayenne Diesel CPO.
Pricetag, about $35-40k depending on options.
Warranty until 2020 or longer thanks to dieselgate.

Budget is definitely under $30k, I’d prefer to keep it under 20k... We may need a new baler in the next year, and it would be nice to be able to spend ~$15k on one. Get a nice, clean, modern-ish used one, as opposed to another 30-year-old fixer-upper. I looked somewhat longingly at several ads for diesels...

It does look good though

N ot my favorite exterior color, but the interior is attr ac tive, and it appears clean.

POTENTIAL repair costs?
![]() 10/22/2018 at 15:56 |

No, the foot release for the hood doe sn’t count.
Wait, is that actually a thing?

hey now, I have heard tell that sometimes they only nickle-and-dime you to death like a Alfa. I’ve owned an Alfa, and can handle that slow bleed... also have a garage, so I can fix most non-lift-non-computer stuff myself...
now if the transfer case borks, that’s another matter.... (though that seems to more of a problem on the V8s... I mean a BIG problem.... but not so common on the v6)

It was early in the morning. I mixed up the hood release and parking brake.

I love that you're referring to them as "the youths." Given that I'm halfway through my thirties, I may follow suit.

Good one!

I have extremely limited experience with them, but it was all bigger work, made worse by people trying to DIY

As a 23 year old, I must do my part.

Part of me wonders how terrible one of these would be for overlanding/off road. I suspect highly expensive to repair, and not very capable, but still, it’s an entertaining idea.

I love my Cayenne, they’re pretty overbuilt and a lot of jobs are doable with patience and research.
Fuel economy is meh but not really much worse than its competitors.
Tows like a champ and is very happy cruising at 80+ on the highway (sans trailer, of course)
